Activity - Board Sailing

Sail boards and kite boards are classified in law as sail boats, and subject to all the normal sailing rules.

For safety reasons, they must not be used at speeds over 5 knots within 200 metres of the beach or 50 metres of other boats or swimmers.

Unless wearing a wet suit, sail boarders and kite boarders are required to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy vest.

Additionally, you should consider wearing booties to avoid slipping and a helmet and knee pads to avoid injury in strong winds.

Many board sailors have been blown out to sea after becoming exhausted, so avoid using sail boards or kite boards in offshore winds unless you are very proficient.
